Welcome to the 104 new readers who joined 6,832 other East Cobb residents this week.

What's up, neighbors!

Big Saturday night on the Square. Back To The Start, a full Coldplay tribute band, is playing the Strand at 8 (doors at 7). Two full sets, a real light show, the whole falsetto singalong. If Coldplay got you through your twenties, this is a fun night to plan around. We’re looking at grabbing tickets and doing dinner on the Square first.

If a concert isn't your thing, Cobb County Parks is putting Jurassic Park up on the big screen that same night, out at The Art Place at Mountain View off Sandy Plains. It's free. Doors at 6, movie at 7:30. Bring blankets and a picnic and let the kids burn off some energy on the green before it starts.

School is creeping back up on us too. If you still need supplies, the Marietta Square Market has a back-to-school market Saturday afternoon with a free giveaway for the kids while it lasts.

Planner's below, plus local news, an acai spot we keep going back to, and this week's pet looking for a home.

If Coldplay was the soundtrack to your twenties, clear your Saturday night.

Back To The Start is a full tribute band, and they're playing the Strand right on Marietta Square. They go all in. The big builds, the falsetto, the songs you forgot you knew every word to until the first chord hits.

This isn't a few guys grinding through the hits in the back of a bar (check out their website). It's a real production, a full light show and visuals, inside a historic 1935 theater that was basically built for this. You get two full sets with an intermission, so it plays like a real concert, not a quick set and out.

Grab dinner on the Square first, then walk over. If you've been meaning to plan an actual night out, this is an EASY yes.

🍨 Macaw Acaiteria

2145 Roswell Rd Ste 110, Marietta, GA 30062, USA

Macaw is an acai bowl shop right on Roswell Road and it's genuinely one of the better ones I've come across around here. Good for an afternoon pick-me-up, a post-workout stop, or just something lighter when you're not in the mood for a full meal.

The thing that sets it apart is you build your own bowl. The staff walks you through it if you're new, and they're friendly about it, not pushy. You pick your base, your toppings, the whole thing. It feels more personal than the places that hand you a menu with three options.

If you've got kids, they tend to love this too. Easy crowd-pleaser and open late every day but Tuesday.

🎮 White Rabbit Cottage

3760 Due West Rd NW, Marietta, GA 30064, USA

Fair warning before you punch the address into your phone: this one sits over on Due West Road in west Marietta, a short drive from East Cobb, but it’s worth the trip.

It started as a little antique store run by a few friends and family who just loved beautiful things and had no idea it would grow into what it is now. Today it is two full buildings you can wander through, packed with home decor, jewelry, candles, soaps, baby gifts, planters, and even upholstered furniture if you are actually redoing a room. There is gourmet food tucked in there too.

What keeps people coming back is the mix. You are not stuck staring at one look repeated on every shelf, and the staff has a reputation for helping without hovering over you. They will wrap whatever you buy for free, which turns a quick stop into a finished gift. Reviewers rave about the quality, and a few note that prices run a little high, which tracks for a specialty shop like this.

Plenty of parking, and it is an easy one to keep in mind the next time you need a gift that does not look like it came off a big box shelf.

Tue–Sat 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM (closed Sunday and Monday)

🏫 Marietta City Schools is putting the brakes on screens this fall

The Marietta City Schools board passed a resolution last week to reduce technology dependency in classrooms and steer things back toward direct teacher-student interaction. The district is also rolling out new guidelines specifically around artificial intelligence use. When kids return in the fall, they'll see real changes in how devices are used during the school day.

This is a pretty significant shift, and it's one a lot of parents have been asking about. The board's framing is straightforward: more face time with teachers, less screen time. Specific implementation details are still being worked out, but the policy direction is locked in.

🏗️ Marietta hits pause on Powers Ferry data center rezoning after packed City Hall pushback

Marietta city leaders postponed a vote last week on rezoning nearly 11 acres at Powers Ferry Place for a data center project proposed by Prime Group Holdings. The developers want to convert part of an existing self-storage site into an 18MW data center facility. The council chamber was packed, with dozens of residents showing up to oppose it, and the crowd spilled outside City Hall.

The council is set to take the request back up on August 12, and it also passed a six-month moratorium on other new data center applications through December 31. If you live near Powers Ferry or have opinions on this one, the August 12 meeting is where to weigh in before a decision gets made.

🏗️ Cobb County Airport gets a brand-new FBO terminal

Ascension has officially opened a new Fixed Base Operator terminal at Cobb County International Airport (McCollum Field), and the ribbon cutting drew county commissioners, airport authority board members, and Cobb Chamber reps. The project started in Commissioner JoAnn Birrell's district and wrapped up in Commissioner Keli Gambrill's, making it a full northern Cobb county effort.

It's a small-but-real sign of investment in the county's aviation infrastructure, and it puts a shinier front door on an airport that a lot of East Cobb residents drive past on Barrett Parkway.

📋 Cobb County eyes $60K fund to recruit new leadership

The Cobb County Board of Commissioners is set to consider a $60,000 recruitment fund that would help the county bring in new officers and pay for executive search firms when filling critical leadership roles. The discussion is in front of the board now.

This kind of investment doesn't make headlines the way a new road or school does, but it matters. Cobb has had key county positions sitting open, and using a professional search firm to fill top roles is how you stop promoting the wrong people or leaving seats empty for months. Worth watching as the vote comes up.

🐾 Meet Ada

2 months, Domestic Short Hair

Some cats have to earn their confidence, and this little one is already halfway there. Ada is a black domestic shorthair kitten, about two months old, and she landed at Good Mews the roundabout way. A kindhearted neighbor rescued her mom, a pregnant community cat, and Ada was part of the litter that followed.

She is a little shy when you first meet her. Give her a minute though. Once she decides you are safe, the playful side comes out and does not quit. She loves to run, climb anything she can get her paws on, and wrestle her siblings. She also has a big appetite and gets genuinely excited about snack time, which makes her easy to win over.

Here is the thing worth knowing: Ada is bonded with her littermates, so she would be happiest going home with one of them. Two kittens sounds like double the work, but they wear each other out and keep each other company while you are gone. Her siblings up for adoption are Hypatia, Curie, Galileo, and Archimedes, so you have options if you want a matched set.

Good Mews is a no-kill, cage-free cat shelter on Robinson Road in Marietta. You fill out one application that covers any of their cats, then visit in person to meet Ada and see who clicks. The adoption fee is $125, and she comes spayed, microchipped, and vaccinated.

🎭 Scene on the Green: Jurassic Park

The Art Place at Mountain View, 3330 Sandy Plains Road Marietta GA 30066

There are summer nights that just click. Warm air, a big screen, dinosaurs chasing people through a jungle, and your whole family sprawled out on the grass with blankets and snacks. That's what Cobb County Parks is putting on this Saturday at The Art Place at Mountain View, right off Sandy Plains Road, less than 10 miles from most of East Cobb. Scene on the Green is in its second season, and this week it's bringing back one of the all-time blockbusters: Jurassic Park.

What it is: Scene on the Green is a free outdoor movie and entertainment series hosted by Cobb County Parks. The venue is The Art Place at Mountain View, an outdoor green space in Marietta that transforms into a community movie night on select summer Saturdays. This week's feature is the original 1993 Jurassic Park, rated PG-13, running about 2 hours and 7 minutes. Before the movie starts, there are preshow activities to keep the kids busy while you find your spot and get settled.

Plan it (get there by 6pm): Doors open at 6:00 PM and the movie starts at 7:30 PM. That 90-minute window before showtime is worth using. Arriving early means better real estate on the green and time to enjoy the preshow. Bring your own chairs or blankets since there's no built-in seating on the lawn. Pack a picnic, grab drinks ahead of time, and plan for a roughly 9:30–9:45 PM finish.

At the screening (about 3 hours total): The preshow runs from 6 to 7:30, so you've got time to settle in, let the kids run a bit, and get comfortable before the film. Once Jurassic Park starts, you're looking at the full theatrical experience under the stars, with the kind of sound design that hits different when you're outside. If weather turns, the program moves inside, though seating becomes first-come, first-served with more limited capacity.

Logistics: The event is free with no ticket required. Parking at The Art Place at Mountain View is available on-site. Alcohol is prohibited. No reservations needed to attend, just show up.

Heads up: The film is PG-13, and Cobb County specifically notes that parents should use their own judgment for younger kids given the themes and some language. If your little ones are Jurassic Park veterans, great. If they're new to the franchise and easily scared, worth thinking through before you go.

Your Deductible Is a Number You Set Once and Then Forget. That's the Problem.

Your deductible is the amount you pay out of pocket before your insurance kicks in on a claim. Most people pick a number when they first set up a policy and never look at it again. But your financial situation changes. The deductible that felt manageable five years ago might now be too low (meaning you're paying more in premium than you need to) or too high (meaning you'd actually struggle to cover it if something happened tomorrow). It shows up right on your declarations page, so this is a two-minute check, not a big project.

Not sure if your current deductible still makes sense for where you are financially? Your Peachy agent can walk through the tradeoffs with you.
