Welcome to the 44 new readers who joined 6,432 other East Cobb residents this week.
What's up, neighbors!
If you've got nothing going on tonight, Alive in Roswell takes over Historic Canton Street from 6 to 10. Free street festival, live music, and local restaurants spilling right out onto the sidewalk. It's a 10 to 15 minute drive from East Cobb and it's worth it every time. We'll be there.
The World Cup is the main event this weekend, and you don't need a ticket to be part of it. It's in Atlanta right now, and the Battery is putting matches up on the big screen out on the Plaza Green, free to walk up and watch. Friday afternoon the USA plays Australia at 3, and since it lands on the Juneteenth day off, a lot of you won't even have work. Bring a chair, grab food from one of the restaurants steps away, and stay for the whole 90 minutes. It's a short drive, and the World Cup only comes around every four years.
Sunday is Father's Day. If dad's into baseball, the Braves play the Brewers at 1:35 with a kids giveaway, and the Chattahoochee Nature Center is letting dads and granddads in free all day.
Scroll down for the full weekend rundown (58 events!), the local news, a restaurant we've been meaning to tell you about, and a fun guessing game for a showcase home for sale in the area.

How are you celebrating Dad this year?

This issue is sponsored by Peachy Insurance
When was the last time you actually looked at your homeowners policy?
For most folks in East Cobb, the honest answer is "when we bought the house." Which would be fine, except home values around here are up $150K to $200K+ since 2020. If your policy hasn't kept up, your dwelling limit is probably short of what it would actually cost to rebuild today.
That gap won't show up on your bill. It only shows up when you file a claim, which is the worst time to find out.
Peachy Insurance is Atlanta-based and built to make this kind of check painless. No call center, no upselling, no runaround. Just a licensed local agent who looks at your full picture and gives you a straight answer on where you stand.
Three things worth a quick look while it's on your mind:
Home: Whether your dwelling limit still reflects what it would actually cost to rebuild your house right now
Auto: Whether your coverage is current for every vehicle you drive, plus rental reimbursement if yours ends up in the shop
Bundle: Whether pairing home and auto makes sense for your situation (East Cobb households sometimes save up to 25%)
Takes about 5 minutes. Free, no pressure.

The World Cup is in Atlanta right now, and you don't need a ticket to be part of it.
The Battery is putting matches up on the big screen on the Plaza Green all weekend, and it's FREE to walk up and watch.
Friday is the one to circle: USA plays Australia at 3 PM, and it lands right on the Juneteenth day off for many of you, so you've got no excuse to miss it.
Bring lawn chairs, grab food from one of the 20-plus restaurants steps away, and stay for the whole 90 minutes.
It's a short drive from East Cobb, and the energy down there with the world in town is something else.
This only happens once every four years aka...if you've been meaning to soak up a little of it, this is the weekend.

🍽️ Rio Steakhouse & Bakery
This is the spot my wife drags me to when she wants to celebrate something, and honestly she's never wrong about it. Brazilian all-you-can-eat barbecue, done right. The room is relaxed, not stuffy, so leave the blazer at home.
Works for a group, works for date night, works for anyone who just wants to eat a pile of really good meat without making a whole production out of it.
The cheese bread is famous for a reason. Order it, eat it, order more. If you want something heartier and more traditional, the feijoada stew is a solid call. And the barbecue just keeps coming around, which is the entire point of the place.
Here's the part nobody expects: they serve breakfast and open at 10am every day. A steakhouse you can hit in the morning. That makes it way more versatile than it looks from the outside.

⛹️ Sweatline Fitness
Sweatline Fitness sits right off Allgood Road in Marietta, and walking in, the setup is more serious than people expect.
Full basketball court, a real weight room, sports performance gear, and a recovery room, all under one roof. Reviewers keep calling out how clean and well-kept the place is, and that matters more than people say out loud.
Coach Lisa runs the youth athletic training side, and the parents bringing their kids in are seeing real results. Not just stronger kids. More confident ones.
One mom put it plainly: her son looks forward to every single session. That's a hard thing to fake.
Now, it's a smaller shop by review count, which really just means the whole neighborhood hasn't found it yet.
The 4.7 stars across 11 reviews is clean, no noise, no complaints buried in there.
If you've got a kid who plays a sport and you're tired of crowded big-box gyms where nobody learns your name, Sweatline is worth a look.

📋 Marietta residents show up loud over data center plans
Residents packed a recent Marietta City Council meeting to push back on possible data center development in the city, with activist groups A Better Cobb and Not For Us, Cobb County driving the turnout. Ahead of time, city officials had been calling some of the claims floating around "misinformation." Didn't keep anybody home.
Why it matters: data centers bring real economic activity, but they also raise legitimate questions about noise, power draw, and how a neighborhood actually feels to live in. Both things can be true, which is exactly why the room was full. The debate is still live, and the city hasn't closed the door on it.
Want a say in it? Watch the upcoming council agendas. Marietta City Council meetings are open to the public, and that room is where this gets decided.

Authority Brands, a big home services franchising company, is planting its flag at 200 Galleria Parkway with a new 48,000-square-foot Franchisee Success Center. Most of the roles will sit in operations, IT, finance, and marketing.
A relocation like this brings two things to the area: professional jobs and steady daytime foot traffic. If you work in any of those fields, or you know someone who does, keep an eye out for postings as they staff the new location up.

📋 Cobb County's State of the County: crime is down, Chairwoman says
Cobb County Chairwoman Lisa Cupid gave her State of the County address this week, and a measurable drop in crime was one of the headline wins. She credited first responders and public safety spending for the turnaround, though the speech didn't break the numbers out by city or neighborhood.
For East Cobb, the countywide trend is worth knowing even if the neighborhood-level detail is still thin. Want the full picture? Cobb County usually posts the State of the County remarks on the official county site after the address.

💼 CobbWorks is running a summer hiring blitz right now

CobbWorks and local city partners ran a countywide hiring blitz this week, connecting job seekers with employers across a bunch of industries. It comes as Georgia's labor force hits record highs and the state unemployment rate holds at 3.5%.
If you or someone in your house is job hunting, or trying to pivot careers before fall, CobbWorks is the place to start. Head to worksourcecobb.org for current listings and upcoming hiring events.

🐾 Meet Shellie
She showed up from animal control with no resume and no fanfare. Just a medium-sized Husky-Basset mix named Shellie, about five years old, 32 pounds, and carrying a whole lot of heart.
Here's the part that gets me: she graduated from the Mostly Mutts Prison Pups training program, so she already knows sit, stay, down, come, drop it, leave it, and place.
She walks well on a leash, has actual door manners, and handles baths and nail trims without making a scene.
For a dog who came up through the shelter system, she is remarkably put-together.
Shellie loves people. That is the whole thing with her. She gets excited around other dogs and people and can be vocal about it, but give her a few visits with the same dog and she settles right down once she figures out they're friendly.
Fast movements and loud noises startle her, though she bounces back quick. Worth knowing going in. It hasn't slowed her down one bit.
She'd do best in a home without toddlers, and with kids who get that she doesn't love being hugged or held down. Already have a calm, patient dog? Bring them in for a meet and greet. She warms up fast once she decides you're her people, and when she does, she is all in.
Mostly Mutts is in Kennesaw, so it’s a bit of a drive. Fill out an adoption inquiry on their site or stop by during open hours to meet her.

🎵 Alive in Roswell
Tonight is one of those rare Thursdays worth actually leaving the house for. Alive in Roswell is a free monthly street festival that takes over Historic Canton Street every third Thursday from April through October, and June lands right in the sweet spot of the summer run.
Live music, local restaurants spilling out onto the sidewalk, neighbors catching up over cold drinks. East Cobb folks drive 10 to 15 minutes for this and then wonder why they don't make the trip every month.
What it is: Alive in Roswell runs at the same time on Historic Canton Street and the Roswell Antique and Interiors Lot, turning the whole corridor into a walkable outdoor festival. The lineup rotates every month and covers food, drinks, live entertainment, and local vendors. It's been a fixture of the Roswell summer calendar for years, and it pulls a real mix of families, couples, and groups of friends out for the night. This is a street festival in the classic sense. No ticket, no wristband, just show up.
Plan it (tonight, after 6): The festival runs 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM, so you've got a four-hour window. Get there by 6:30 and you catch the best energy before the heavier crowd builds later. Canton Street has dedicated public parking lots nearby. Wear comfortable shoes. You'll be walking and standing the whole time.
At the festival (2-3 hours): Start at one end of Canton Street and just walk it. The food comes from the restaurants and vendors along the corridor, so you're choosing from real cuisines, not carnival fare. Live entertainment is spread through the area, and the Antique and Interiors Lot gives you a second pocket of activity worth a look. Bringing kids? The vibe is genuinely welcoming. This isn't a bar crawl, it's a neighborhood festival that happens to have great food and music.
Logistics: Free admission. Street parking and dedicated lots nearby (see this web page for specifics). Dogs are welcome on leash, just clean up after them. No registration, just show up.
Heads up: The festival runs weather permitting, and June in Georgia means an afternoon storm is always on the table. Check the forecast before you head out.

👰 Wedding Season Is Here. One Insurance Thing Worth Knowing Before the Big Day.
May and June are the busiest wedding months of the year, and there's an insurance angle most families never think about until something goes sideways.
Wedding insurance (sometimes called special event insurance) can cover your cancellation costs if a vendor folds, a venue closes out of nowhere, or a family emergency forces you to postpone.
There's also a liability piece that covers injuries or property damage during the event itself.
Here's a pro tip before you buy anything standalone: check your homeowners or renters policy first. A lot of existing policies already extend liability coverage to events you're hosting, so you may already be partly covered and not know it.
Not sure what your current policy actually covers for events? Your local Peachy Insurance agent can pull it up and tell you in about five minutes. Just call or text (770) 520-7095.

This week: Jobs hiring in East Cobb, Marietta, and nearby
Lockheed Martin has roughly 125 open roles at the Marietta plant on South Cobb Drive, with fresh June postings for manufacturing planners, industrial engineers, inspection supervisors, and material handlers. Most production schedules run four 10-hour days, Monday through Thursday. Translation: three-day weekends, every single week.
City of Marietta has 22 openings up right now: police officer, route driver, deputy court clerk, traffic signal apprentice, water system operator, and parks maintenance, to name a few. HR reviews applications every week and several roles stay open until filled, so a strong application can move quick.
Marietta City Schools is staffing up for the 2026-27 year. Teaching and support roles run through the main applicant portal, and there are separate quick applications if you'd rather substitute teach or work in school nutrition. The district was just named a Top Workplace, and for a lot of folks around here, the commute does not get any shorter than this.
Truist Park is hiring 2026 baseball season team members through Delaware North, with spots in concessions, premium dining, suites, and the warehouse. The season runs into October, longer if the Braves make a run, and eligible team members can pick up health, dental, and vision benefits.
Kennesaw State University has more than 200 staff and faculty openings across both campuses, everything from advising and admissions to facilities and IT. The real draw is the University System of Georgia benefits: retirement plans, tuition assistance for employees, and an actual holiday calendar.
Bonus help (free): Goodwill of North Georgia runs 14 career centers around the metro with free computers, resume and cover letter help, workshops, and one-on-one coaching. Can't get there in person? Their Career Connector site has the same job-search tools online, 24/7.
