What's up, neighbors!
Easter weekend is here, and if you only do one thing Saturday, make it the Northeast Cobb Community Egg Drop at Sprayberry High School. It runs all day from 10 to 4, it's free, and a helicopter flies over the football field and drops 90,000 eggs while hundreds of kids line the sideline waiting for the countdown. We've been hearing about this from families who make it an annual trip, and the fact that grandparents are now bringing the same kids they brought ten years ago says all we need to know. Bring a bag and get there before 10 because it's going to be busy.
If Saturday is already full, Friday on the Marietta Square is worth your evening. The Art Walk runs 5 to 9, and you can walk from gallery to gallery, pop into shops, grab dinner, and not spend a single dollar on admission the whole night. The Earth, Wind & Fire tribute at the Strand that same night is a real show if you want something with a little more energy after dinner.
Sunday, the Marietta Cobb Museum of Art is doing First Free Sundays from 11 to 4. No admission, simple art activity for kids, and a genuinely calm way to close out a busy Easter weekend without spending money or driving far.
One more thing before you scroll. Lassiter just made history. Both the boys and girls swim teams won state titles in the same season, the first time that's ever happened at the school. Full story is in the Local Lowdown.
Happy Easter, neighbors.

What’s your family’s Easter weekend plan?

This issue is sponsored by Peachy Insurance
Easter weekend means a house full of people, kids running through someone else's yard, and that trampoline you swore you'd never buy getting its first real workout of the season.
It's also when a lot of families start pulling out the outdoor stuff: trampolines, swing sets, fire pits, inflatable pools. And here's the thing most people don't think about: your homeowner's insurance has opinions about all of it.
A few things worth knowing before the backyard season really kicks off:
Trampolines and pools are the two biggest liability flags on a homeowner's policy. Some carriers exclude them entirely, others require fencing or safety nets to maintain coverage. If you added one last year and didn't tell your agent, now is the time.
Hosting a big gathering? Your standard liability coverage is what protects you if a guest gets hurt on your property. Most policies start at $100K, but a lot of families in East Cobb carry more than that in assets. If someone trips on your patio stairs or a kid breaks an arm on the play set, that number matters.
Umbrella policies are the most underused tool in home insurance. For roughly $15–$25 a month, you get an extra $1M in liability coverage that sits on top of your home and auto policies. If you've never looked into one, it takes about five minutes to understand why most financial planners recommend it.
None of this is meant to scare you out of hosting Easter. It's meant to make sure your Saturday is fun and your Monday isn't stressful.
Peachy is Atlanta-based, licensed, and built to give you a straight answer without the runaround.

🚁 Northeast Cobb Community Egg Drop
Sprayberry High School
2525 Sandy Plains Road, Marietta
Saturday, April 4 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM
Free
A helicopter cruises over the Sprayberry High School football field while hundreds of kids line the edges waiting. A 10-second countdown goes over the PA. Then 90,000 eggs drop. And every kid on that sideline sprints onto the field at once to grab as many as they can.
This is the 17th annual Northeast Cobb Community Egg Drop, hosted by Piedmont Church and the Cobb County School District. Free admission. Free parking. A full day of stuff to do. Those two organizations have been running this long enough to know what they're doing, and it shows.
The egg hunts are split by age group so the little ones aren't getting leveled by a nine-year-old with a pillowcase. Beyond the drop, you've got bounce houses, face painting, a DJ, food vendors, and free Easter Bunny photos from 11 AM to 3 PM. The proceeds go back into the community too. Last year, over $18,000 went to programs at Sprayberry and Kell High Schools. So you're not just having a good time, you're actually doing something.
People who brought their kids to this ten years ago are now bringing their grandkids. That's not a coincidence. That's a tradition worth showing up for.
Bring a bag. Get there before 10. And don't say I didn't warn you about the bounce houses.

🍽️ Cuban Diner

1484 Roswell Rd, Marietta, GA 30062
This one checks all the boxes for a low-stress, high-satisfaction outing. Cuban Diner keeps things simple, warm, and inviting. From the moment you walk in, you are greeted with friendly faces and a cozy atmosphere, whether you are a first-time guest or a longtime regular.
It sits in a strip mall on Roswell Road, but do not let that fool you. The restaurant is a lifelong dream realized by Jose and Susy Ricardo. Jose, a native of Holguin, Cuba, moved to the Atlanta area in the late 90. Susy, a native of New Jersey raised by Cuban parents in Miami, joined him in 1999.
Their goal was to create a place where the food is authentic and the atmosphere reflects their heritage. That intention comes through in every plate.
For starters, go with the empanadas or the croquetas. The empanadas are crisp on the outside and packed with flavor inside, and the croquetas are classic chopped ham, breaded and fried. Both travel well if you are doing takeout.
For your main, the Cuban sandwich is the move if you want something fast and satisfying. It is built with roasted pork, ham, Swiss cheese, pickles, and mustard on pressed Cuban bread.
Generous portion sizes are a recurring theme in reviews, and the pricing is considered reasonable for the quality and amount of food you get. Nobody leaves hungry.
Pro tip: Add a side of maduros (sweet plantains) to whatever you order. Reviewers consistently call them a standout, and more than a few people came back a second day just for them. Simple, sweet, and worth every bite.

🛍️ Pineapple Porch Boutique

1255 Johnson Ferry Road, Suite 40, Marietta, GA 30068
Jeanette Culling opened Pineapple Porch Boutique in May 2019 as the anti e-commerce store. The idea was simple: if you needed a gift or that one last piece to finish off a room, you could come in, hold it, and know exactly what you were getting.
The boutique is built on the foundations of Southern hospitality, charm, and that genuinely inviting spirit that makes people feel at home. It shows. The shop, tucked into a strip mall on Johnson Ferry Road, transformed what used to be a tanning salon into something that looks and feels like a real home, thanks to the vision of Marietta designer Cassandra Buckalew.
Whether you are shopping for your own home or looking for a gift, Pineapple Porch aims to be your one-stop shop, with new products featured regularly so you never quite know what you will find. They carry candles, table-top place settings, salt and pepper shakers, charcuterie pieces, blue and white classics, bamboo, linen and more.
Customers often bring in photos of a room and its existing decor, looking for the right piece to pull it together. Loyal regulars stop in multiple times a week, and often they are not even shopping for themselves.
The name comes from the pineapple as a symbol of traditional hospitality. When pineapples were first brought to Colonial America, they were rare and considered a luxury. The wealthy would serve them as part of a meal. Those without great means would rent a pineapple from the local grocer and display it whole to let guests know how special it was to have them there. That spirit still lives in the store today.

🏊 Lassiter Makes History with Back-to-Back State Titles

Big news out of Shallowford Road. The Lassiter Trojans Swim and Dive program made history this season as both the Boys and Girls teams captured the GHSA Division 5A State Championships, marking the first time in school history that both teams won state titles in the same season.
The girls won their seventh consecutive state championship, led by senior Ashlyn Loftin, who closed out her career with her second straight individual title in the 100-yard breaststroke. The boys claimed their first-ever state title in Class 5A, powered by standout swimmer Gavin Halusic, who won the 50-yard freestyle and was part of two championship relay teams.
Head coach Brittany Hughes summed it up simply: having both teams win together was amazing. The whole community has been buzzing about it since February. Well earned.

🏫 Local Schools Getting Major Upgrades This Summer
Good news if you have kids in the Cobb County School District. Renovation work is planned at Addison and Keheley elementary schools, both funded through the current Ed-SPLOST VI sales tax, with completion dates targeted for July 2026.
Addison's $1.3 million renovation will include new flooring throughout most of the facility, painting, restroom upgrades, new classroom windows, and a new security entry area. Keheley's $2.9 million project covers roof, window and door replacements, new painting, restroom upgrades, and a new bus canopy.
Both schools stay open during the work. Good to see the district investing in the buildings where kids spend their days.

🐾 Meet Tiny

Adult domestic shorthair, 7-11 lbs
Tiny may be small, but she’s not timid. She’s a petite black-and-white adult cat with a calm, curious confidence. She’ll poke into new corners, investigate what you’re doing, and then flip the switch into cozy mode when she’s ready.
She came to Good Mews Animal Foundation from a county shelter for a better chance at finding her forever home. She’s the kind of cat who keeps life gently interesting. A little play, a little exploring, then she settles in close. If you want a cat that’s affectionate and engaging without being chaotic, Tiny is a great match.
Tiny is an adult female Domestic Short Hair (about 7–11 lbs) and is listed as spayed.
Good Mews is a no-kill, cage-free rescue in Marietta. To get started, submit an inquiry on Petfinder or reach out to Good Mews directly.

🆓 Hurt Road Park

990 Hurt Road, Austell, GA 30106
You want an easy outdoor plan that works for a wide age range and doesn't require tickets, reservations, or a big pack list. This park is that. Playground, trails, courts, fields. You can keep it simple or stay for hours.

Source: Terry Brooks on Google
What it is: Hurt Road Park is a Cobb County park with a playground, walking trail, picnic areas, sports fields, and courts. It's the kind of place where one kid can climb, one kid can kick a ball, and the adults can actually get a walk in.

Source: V.B.P. on Google
What to expect: Open space, active vibes, and plenty of room to spread out. The trail is good for a quick loop and the playground is an easy anchor. If it's busy, rotate: playground first, then trail, then fields.
Good to know: The park has softball fields and batting cages, plus tennis and basketball. Weekends can get crowded when games are scheduled, so go earlier if you want calmer parking and less noise.

⛈️ Storm Season Is Here. Document Your Home Before You Need To.
April is when north Georgia's severe weather really picks up. Hail, straight-line winds, fallen trees, tornado warnings, it all tends to cluster in the next eight weeks. And the single best thing you can do for yourself right now takes about 15 minutes and costs nothing.
Walk through your house and record everything.
Open your phone camera and do a slow lap. Hit every room, every closet, the garage, the attic. Get your appliances, electronics, furniture, anything you'd need to replace. Then go outside: roof line, siding, gutters, fence, deck, HVAC unit, cars in the driveway. Upload the video to Google Drive or iCloud so it's not just sitting on the phone that might get damaged.
This is what adjusters call a "pre-loss inventory," and it is the difference between a smooth claim and a months-long argument about what you owned.
A few more things worth doing this week:
1. Know your wind/hail deductible. In Georgia, many homeowner's policies have a separate, percentage-based deductible for wind and hail. Often 1% to 2% of your dwelling coverage. On a $500K home, that's $5,000 to $10,000 out of pocket before your policy kicks in. If you don't know your number, look it up now so it's not a surprise at the worst possible time.
2. Trim what's hanging over your roof. Dead limbs and overhanging branches are the number one source of storm damage claims in our area. If a dead tree on your property falls on your house, your policy generally covers it. If a healthy tree falls, same thing. But if an insurer can show you ignored a known hazard, it gets complicated. A few hundred dollars on a tree service now can save you a five-figure headache later.
3. Check your sump pump and backup. If your home has a basement or crawl space, confirm the sump pump runs when you pour water into the pit. Battery backups die quietly. Test yours. Standard homeowner's policies usually don't cover flooding from backed-up pumps unless you've added that endorsement specifically.
Not sure what your wind/hail deductible actually is? Peachy can pull your declarations page and walk you through it in 10 minutes. No runaround, no pressure.
